Rocky Baba Music Journey
Orok Francis Effiong (born May 27, 1997), better known as Rocky Baba, is a Nigerian singer and songwriter making waves in the Afrobeat music scene. He hails from Akpabuyo Local Government Area of Cross River State, Calabar, Nigeria.
His musical journey began in 2017 when he discovered his talent as a church chorister and drummer. Alongside his brother, Wireboy, he practiced using zinc and rubber to create beats and sing along, inspired by his musical idol, Wizkid.
Breakthrough in Music
In 2018, Rocky Baba recorded his first evergreen song, “Chinko”, with prolific Nigerian producer TeddyBanty. He followed this with numerous hit songs that established him as a rising talent. In 2019, he signed with Madt Nation Crew and released the top-notch track “Blessings” featuring Nigerian luminary Utfresh.
Later that year, due to observed unlawful acts, he peacefully left the crew and launched his own music team, Cali Boy Record, alongside manager Blessing Ogbor. As a self-reliant artist and CEO, Rocky Baba collaborated with top Nigerian stars like TeddyBanty, Xbass, Davidest, Texzy, Kely02, and Jonnykage.
Education and Career Growth
In 2019, Rocky Baba was admitted to the University of Calabar to study Social Studies. Although the COVID-19 pandemic delayed his academic progress, he resumed in 2021 while continuing to push his music career forward.
In a major milestone, Rocky Baba caught the attention of Boss Lady Zina Palin, CEO of King and Queen Radio Station in Brooklyn, New York. He signed a deal, marking a significant step into the global music scene.
